Identifying Future Needs
T E C H N O L O G Y

The Challenge

A middle manager sought to migrate products and services to state-of-the-art technology within her software division. Her staff of more than 100 was highly experienced in the legacy systems and technology they had developed and supported for many years. It was now time to access future business needs and resource competencies.

The manager assigned a cross-functional employee involvement team to work with SynTactSolutions (formally Katz & Associates) to define essential future skills as well as the current skills necessary to maintain service and support while the new technology was developed. One crucial question was how extensive the skills gap would be between current skill capacity and essential future skills. The manager was concerned that the staff would be tempted to inflate their skills calibration in order to maintain job security during this time of change.

The Solution

After reviewing SkillSolution's™ statistical assessment of employees current skills, the manager realized that the skills gap was large indeed. It also became clear that employees had not inflated their skills assessment, as evidenced by the charts and graphs provided by SkillSolutions™, the Resource Power Tool. SkillSolution's™ up-to-date, vital information enabled the manager to target the level of technical and business training needed, the number of employees needing various types of training, and the time frame necessary for employees to receive training and move to their new assignments.
